Astrophotography with a unmodified Canon 6D

Lot´s of people in the whole world would like to do nice astro-images. Usually the images from a normal DSLR suffer from the very, very low sensitvity of most cameras at H-alpha: All the nice red glowing reagions like Orions nebula, the horsehead etc. are simply missing or have bluish color.

The 6D from Canon is different to most other cameras, it has a sensitivity of about 25% at 656nm and can record H-alpha regions very well. -Without a modification!

New Zealands Astrophotographer Amit Kamble got some of our XL-Clip filters for his 6D and got amazing results! Enjoy his website [http://amitkamble.com/astronomik-filters-comparison/]  and see his comparision of UHC, CLS and 12nm H-alpha filters!

Amit will soon add artcles about focusing, white balance, processing etc, so watch his site or our news!

TOWARD A TWO-TIER MONEY SYSTEM

AND MONEY CREATED FOR THE PRIVATE SIDE

Yep, we are still thinking and trying to advance toward a ‘spiritual awakening’ with money. I suppose we are stuck with that, at least for the time being. But it won’t always be so. Some us who do ‘forward thinking’ envision what the natural end will be as we evolve into a 5th dimensional world. It is the details and interim steps which give us the headaches.

It appears that most have worked their way logically through the Federal Reserve Note swamp, and are willing to consider something else. So, hopefully I don’t need to go back over that.

First of all, then, let’s do a bit of analysis of a two-tiered monetary system which we anticipate going into as we expect to be ushered into a ‘new’ republic form of government.

Previously, with the FRNs, we had both the government and the public using the same form of money. This created a natural competition for that money. And in that competition the government had a huge advantage through a variety of means. In essence, this in many ways turned us back into a two class society. If the government said that you could be rich, you became rich. If the government said you will be poor, then you were poor. And it seems that the middle class were that in name only as the government slowly but surely ground away at the middle class in an attempt to reduce it to the lower class.

What if there was no competition between the government and the people for money? Could that be accomplished if the government used one form of money, and the people used another form of money? Could the government carry on? Would the commerce between people even out? Would people treat one another on a different level knowing that as people we simply have to work things out, because the government is not a ‘silent third party’ to our transactions? Hmm.

Well we are going into a two-tiered monetary system in this country. And perhaps if we can successfully demonstrate the viability of that, then other countries might even adopt that same method.

Just for a historical moment here let’s look back at a two-tiered situation that might be profitable for examination. In former times, we had a division between commerce and trade. What the ‘king’ did was called commerce. What the merchants did was called trade, and as the word trade denotes, we are talking about ‘something for something’. The jurisdiction for the kings’ commerce was called the Admiralty. The jurisdiction for the trade of merchants was called Maritime. And both Admiralty and Maritime had their own court system to deal with any problems. But then as things went along, the merchants subrogated their system to the kings’ commerce when the merchants forsook their own monetary system and merged with the king. This destroyed the two-tiered monetary system which operated for so long. … and we see the results of that.

TIER ONE

Without going back over what I have presented so many times in the past about the military-backed interim government or what some refer to as the ‘New Republic’, let’s review the money associated with this NR.

Early in 2015 as the interim situation was moving into existence, there was an immediate concern … no money. And to complicate matters was the international monetary requirements of the Basel III agreements which, in essence, demanded that any national currency to viable for international trade, it had to be substance backed … in particular gold-backed.

To facilitate the NR, some of the Chinese elders gave the equivalent of $200B in gold bullion to the effort. So, with gold on hand so as to comply with international demand, the interim NR created a new currency called Treasury Reserve Notes. And they started to trade these TRNs on the currency markets in the summer of 2015 up to the present time I would imagine. At that point, the NR could start to interchange commercially internationally. What the volume or accounting for all of that is, is way beyond my knowledge … just that it happened and is happening.

But the TRNs are not for general use in the day to day commerce of people and businesses. It is totally government level money. Even though this new currency existed, the public was still using the faulty FRNs, and are up until the present time (or at least till now unless things change between this writing and the introduction of the new money which we expect to be introduced any day now).

TIER TWO

This reference to ‘tier two’ money means money that is for use not by government but by people and businesses. Basically, we are reversing history by putting the ‘king’ in one place/jurisdiction and the people and merchants in another place/jurisdiction because of the type of money used. And I will shortly point out how the two will have to interact for commercial viability as the merchant and manufacturers want to do International commerce.

What is proposed is the creation of United States Notes to be issued by the new US Treasury. And these USNs would be for exclusive use domestically.

I am sure that a lot of ‘old hands’ are going to immediately ask: are the USNs gold backed? I would answer yes and no. The ‘yes’ part I will go into shortly, but the ‘no’ part I will simply just ask: why would they need to be gold backed? If they are exclusive to domestic use, why would the USNs have to comply with the Basel III? If the USNs are only for domestic use and won’t be traded internationally then Basel III is not a consideration.

INTERFACE … the ‘yes’ from above.

So, what if ABC company wants to sell their widgets to China? The widgets were manufactured in the US. The materials to build the widgets were paid for with USNs. The workers who built the widgets were paid in USNs. So, how are these widgets going to end up with Chinese consumers if the widget is totally the results of USNs?

Here is where I envision the TRNs coming into play. The USN value would have to translated into TRN value for the international transaction. When the Chinese consumer pays for the widget, and the profit is sent back to the ABC company in the US, then from Chinese value to USN value, again there would have to be a formula in place using the TRN.

The volume of international trading of widgets would be only restricted by the availability for use/transfer by TRNs. Of course, once the transaction is completed, the TRN which was locked into that transaction would be immediately freed up for the next transaction … zero liability attached to the TRN upon ‘execution’ of the contract. And once the government gets an idea of how many TRNs are actually needed for the volume of international commerce, the government can simply create that amount of TRNs … no need for more. And hey, we have computers now which can figure this all out in micro-seconds.

With this model in place, is there any ceiling for the amount of USNs in use domestically? If the restriction to be gold-backed removed, then domestically there is no limit to the amount of USNs which could be put into circulation. Obviously then, within the US prosperity would not depend on the relative value of the TRN to other world’s currencies if the TRN is simply being used as a transfer agent for the values created by the use of the USNs.

In my estimation, this will create a consumer driven demand for “Made in the USA” to be on most of the products. Will that consumer driven demand bring prosperity to a failing economy? How long will it take to lift the US workers out of the dumping ground created by the international slave-labor products with which the US worker cannot compete? Will we see the ‘Mom and Pop’ operations spring back into existence. Will WalMart, Costco, and the like have to suffer a downsizing? Will the consumer demand better quality products rather than the cheap plastic imports?

CAVEAT

I am not an expert on economics. I am just a ‘survivor’ of a heretofore ‘forced down your throat whether you like it or not’ consumer. I drive a Chevy. I wear an ‘off the rack’ suit to funerals and weddings. I know relatively nothing about big business and manufacturing.

But … I do use a little bit of common sense, reason, and logic every once in a while. And I do see the real possibilities of this new two-tiered money system which we will shortly be in use of. My only complaint is … why has it taken so long to implement?

Will it happen the way I have lined it out here in this paper? I don’t know that it will or not. But I would think that if not exactly as I have outlined it, that at least something similar would be the only usable way to handle it.

But what do I know? I dropped out of college accounting class.

Winston Shrout
www.wssic.com

PS I hope my little exercise here in economics at least has had the effect to get the reader ‘thinking’. Maybe some have already considered what is written here. Others may not have even given this subject any thought at all. But it is upon us … now. And if what is handed to us is not to our liking … well that is why we are going to have a republic form of government.

And remember, the government employees right from the President down to the mail room clerk are going to be paid in … yep, you guessed it – USNs. So, it will be in the interest of us all to get this figured out and put into action.

“The beautiful Trifid Nebula, also known as Messier 20, lies about 5,000 light-years away, a colorful study in cosmic contrasts. It shares this nearly 1 degree wide field with open star cluster Messier 21 (top left). Trisected by dust lanes the Trifid itself is about 40 light-years across and a mere 300,000 years old. That makes it one of the youngest star forming regions in our sky, with newborn and embryonic stars embedded in its natal dust and gas clouds.
Estimates of the distance to open star cluster M21 are similar to M20's, but though they share this gorgeous telescopic skyscape there is no apparent connection between the two. M21's stars are much older, about 8 million years old. M20 and M21 are easy to find with even a small telescope in the nebula rich constellation Sagittarius. In fact, this well-composed scene is a composite from two different telescopes. Using narrowband data it blends a high resolution image of M20 with a wider field image extending to M21.”

Sawyer, any time now!, death is absolutely inevitable, outliving your friends and family, fragile and tiny, why daddy looks at me strangely now, Jean Paul Sartre, everybody lives forever, your forever has happened, that was your forever, giving it the forever life, the death of a child vs. the death of a 99 year old person, her “accident”, why the name change from Flapper and Raspberry to Abbot and Costello, the audience wouldn’t buy it, it’s very movie, Sam and Diane, definitely its, a thematic pair, classic comedy, highly neat, a weird theory, in the context of the movie logic, memories with the daughter, pointing at the problem of the movie, there’s no deciding!, it’s everywhere, talking for the sake of ritual, actors performing the lines, you have to read it on the page to grasp it in the theatre, seeing Shakespeare performed, to see an actualization of your experience, a positive story (a horror), not testing them limits, delivering their lines well, he’s improvising, I need a bowl like this (in order to hit my daughter in the head with it), choosing not to learn it Queen Of Nanaimo, my Tron story, a clone of Defender, a side-scroller, demo mode, “insert coin”, a weird phenomena, at what point did I lose control?, computer games, Battlefield 4, the same kind of frustration, when you’re in the “zone” where time flows differently, your brain chemicals are elevated, it’s like I’m on drugs, where frustration comes from, why the ancient Greeks are all about fate, errors are going to creep in, in a certain sense it’s all scripted, dealing with this theme more explicitly, the one with the button, what to make of all of this?, a creepier sense of this poor woman, what a horrible existence, I cherish every moment, it’s only when things don’t going according to my script, even better!, only a lack of knowledge is upsetting, however we’re supposed to perceive it, it doesn’t make her upset, euphoric in the flow state, a logic defeated by the film, there’s no drama like that in the story, our realization of what Ted Chiange has done with that two hours of text, very Borgesian, a science fiction writer’s version of Borges, the text fixed, all the contents are immutable and yet we continue reading it, Big Trouble In Little China, Galaxy Quest, knowing the end doesn’t distract from the movie, is there a word for a fear of predictability?, do things unexpectedly all the time please, such a horror, he’s also Lovecraft, barrel shaped, At The Mountains Of Madness, The Shadow Out Of Time, an experience that the narrator can’t do anything time, if Lovecraft could ever write about a mom…, a professor who has a strange experience with an otherworldly creature, unavailability and a horror, a slow build up of tension, the whole bomb sequence, the alt-right talk show Alex Jones character, the latest series of Homeland, is in the death process, they knew it was coming, the spray (of shit?) all over the screen, their writing reflects their perception of reality, their speech doesn’t reflect their perception, from the end of the Mist, that’s just how we perceive it,they don’t really look like that, big pieces of silica, 12 vs. 112, why only 12?, this is a math problem, only one pair of aliens in all of those looking glasses, time fracture, all-time/no-time, there might only be one alien, when you’re perceiving things differently, why did the aliens come to visit?, we need reasons when we walk out of the movie theater, the 3,000 years thing, at the moment I was satisfied, Fermat and the light, for teleological reasons, knowing where it’s going and where it’s been all at the same time, we think of cause and effect, the universe is a book that can be read a couple of different ways, in a story vs. in a movie, we’re so conditioned, getting mad at the movie, are they just scientists?, the Strugatsky brothers, Roadside Picnic, animals, we are come and creepy like that, animals are almost never interested in having conversations,The universe was a language with a perfectly ambiguous grammar. Every physical event was an utterance that could be parsed in two entirely different ways, one causal and the other teleological. the rabbit is ready to eat, the rabbit is ready? hungry rabbits vs. hungry people, time flies like an arrow, fruit flies like a banana, fruit doesn’t fly, fruit stays still – like bananas, free as in software not as like free as in beer, FREE BEER!, free software is infinitely copyable, grammar allows for multiple meanings too, parallels with Contact (1997), a little bit like an homage, complete with the religious nuts, a cult, Heaven’s Gate, a nice metaphor for our current times, what the State Department is going to think, a clown show, nothing they do matters, clearly filmed before the Trump presidency, could you film it now?, somehow Trump makes it more realistic, who would do that?, a big tantrum, stop talking to them bigly, the score and cinematography, the same director and composer, I’ve seen the future don’t be so excited, moderate your expectations, dreaming about hectopod unlocking future memories, seeing snatches of the future, it rewired Paul’s brain, really affecting stories, Sapir-Whorf hypothesis, TED Talks, a TED Talk talking point, linguistic relativity, stories are what come out of language, stories that resonate, when she’s reading Goldilocks to her daughter, you’re not telling it right, threefold magic, that’s all you need to know, always the same reaction and always a different reaction, the three chairs, the bowls, the three beds, somebody’s been sitting in my chair, somebody’s been eating my porridge, somebody’s been sleeping in my bed and there she is!, being able to retell, this is how Homer’s stories are designed, rosy fingered dawn, memory cues, hhmms and hawws, the epithets, tools and tricks evolved naturally out of us, Maissa enjoying Galaxy Quest again and again, Seth McFarlane’s The Orville, a whole series?, In The Mountains Of Madness by W. Scott Poole, I Am Providence by Nick Mamatass, the subgenre, Murder At The ABA by Isaac Asimov, mysteries set at mystery or science fiction conventions, authors writing what they know, Winter’s Tide, Lovecraft Country, Goodreads.com is good for satisfying hate-ons, here’s my position: I’m better than you, you with your Lovecraftian tentacle shirt…, the opposite of Ted Chiang, some sort of ethos or ethical system, there’s not just going with it and seeing how it goes, he has something to say, crafted not rushed, awards are wrong on the grand scheme, Parsec and Nebula awards, if you’re aiming in that direction…, moving through the universe and collecting awards by accident, Hidden Figures (2016), why are they stopped there?, whatever…, should I call a tow truck?, “no, I’ll just bypass the starter?!!?!?”, what the fuck are you talking about?!!?!?, smart women engineers, you can’t bypass starters, IBM, come on!, now you’ve ruined it Jesse, the only reason that exists, they ruined it, they need the sequence, a movie supposedly about science and engineering and then they focus on what makes it actually interesting, an establishing character moment, their so smart they can do magic, for trailer moments, Kevin Costner smashing the bathroom sign, I want to be manipulated, Da Vinci’s Demons, an amazonian parrot in the time of Da Vinci?, we could use african greys, perfectionists and people who don’t care, every word is perfectly placed, he’s clear, every word is carefully place, actually it’s him doing Borges, a much finer point, brains and minds, Exhalation, you can’t use your mind to look at your own mind, doing experimental surgery on his own head using a mirror, The Electric Ant by Philip K. Dick, this is a master at work, everybody in there, he’s a wonder.           Photo Release: New Hubble mosaic of the Orion Nebula
New Hubble image of Kleinmann-Low NebulaIn the search for rogue planets and failed stars astronomers using the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope have created a new mosaic image of the Orion Nebula. During their survey of the famous star formation region, they found what may be the missing piece of a cosmic puzzle; the third, long-lost member of a star system that had broken apart.
Mountains of Dust in the Carina Nebula
It's stars versus dust in the Carina Nebula and the stars are winning. More precisely, the energetic light and winds from massive newly formed stars are evaporating and dispersing the dusty stellar nurseries in which they formed. Located in the Carina Nebula and known informally as Mystic Mountain, these pillar's appearance is dominated by the dark dust even though it is composed mostly of clear hydrogen gas. Dust pillars such as these are actually much thinner than air and only appear as mou [...]

Lada Dracul has no allies. No throne. All she has is what she’s always had: herself. After failing to secure the Wallachian throne, Lada is out to punish anyone who dares to cross her blood-strewn path. Filled with a white-hot rage, she storms the countryside with her men, accompanied by her childhood friend Bogdan, terrorizing the land. But brute force isn’t getting Lada what she wants. And thinking of Mehmed brings little comfort to her thorny heart. There’s no time to wonder whether he still thinks about her, even loves her. She left him before he could leave her.

What Lada needs is her younger brother Radu’s subtlety and skill. But Mehmed has sent him to Constantinople—and it’s no diplomatic mission. Mehmed wants control of the city, and Radu has earned an unwanted place as a double-crossing spy behind enemy lines. Radu longs for his sister’s fierce confidence—but for the first time in his life, he rejects her unexpected plea for help. Torn between loyalties to faith, to the Ottomans, and to Mehmed, he knows he owes Lada nothing. If she dies, he could never forgive himself—but if he fails in Constantinople, will Mehmed ever forgive him?

As nations fall around them, the Dracul siblings must decide: what will they sacrifice to fulfill their destinies? Empires will topple, thrones will be won . . . and souls will be lost.

Now on to the interview!

Hi Kiersten! First I want to say welcome back to Two Chicks on Books! NOW I RISE was absolutely fantastic and I can’t wait for everyone to read it! And am so happy that you could stop by for a visit!

Thank you so much! I’m so happy to be back.

For the readers: can you tell us a little recap of AND I DARKEN and what we can expect in NOW I RISE?

And I Darken followed the travails of the Dracul siblings, Lada and Radu. Traded by their father for leverage, they were raised as political prisoners in the Ottoman courts. Radu, kind and thoughtful and desperate for love, surprisingly flourished. Lada, vicious and ruthlessly ambitious, struggled against the restrictions of both their captivity and her gender. But they both found a lifeline in Mehmed, the brilliant third son of the sultan. When Mehmed was thrust onto the throne, Lada and Radu used their separate skills to help him evade assassins and solidify power. They both also developed feelings deeper than friendship for him. At the end of book one, they are faced with a choice: Remain under the protection of Mehmed and help him, or go on to the throne of their long-lost home. Radu chose to stay. Lada chose to leave. Book two will trace their separate journeys as Lada realizes having power is not as simple as claiming it, and Radu’s loyalty to his faith and his friend are pushed to their limits when he goes behind the walls of Constantinople as spy and saboteur during the greatest siege of their time.

So do you have a title for book 3 yet?

Yes! It’s brilliant! I can’t tell you! I’m so sorry! I have also seen the cover, and, as much as I absolutely adore books one and two, it’s my favorite.

I know you took a trip to Romania for research did you come across any
particularly interesting lore from the area?

There was one church we visited in the countryside that was seven or eight hundred years old. Carved on one wall was the face of God. And on the other, the Green Man, an old pagan deity. I loved that they were totally cool putting them both in a Christian churchcovering all their bases! The Green Man lore is really fascinating to look into, and hopefully Ill write a book one day where I can explore this duality and melding of beliefs.

It was also amazing to visit Vlad Dracul’s historical sites. We didn’t do it on purpose, but we ended up at every significant one, and getting a real sense for where he walked ended up being invaluable a few years later when I started And I Darken!

Who was your favorite character to write? What about your least favorite?

It’s a tie between Nazira, Radu’s sort-of wife, and Nicolae, Lada’s comic relief and semi-conscience. They both functioned in the role of loving their respective friends but also being honest with them. My least favorite character to write was Matthias Corvinus. Not because he is awful, but because he has such a fascinating and rich history himself, and I had to cut almost all of it to fit him into my fictional tale. I still feel bad about ithe deserves his own trilogy!

What is your favorite passage/scene in NOW I RISE?

When [spoiler] finally makes it through [spoiler] and takes [spoiler spoiler spoiler], and the sense of triumph and relief, but also how much is left to come that [spoiler spoiler spoiler SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER]. That, or the scene where Nicolae admits he sold Lada to an old man in the mountains in exchange for a goat.

Who is your ultimate book boyfriend?

Cricket Bell from LOLA AND THE BOY NEXT DOOR by Stephanie Perkins. (I’m totally an Isla, but I love Cricket best.)

What inspired you to write YA?

It was the age range I had the most fun reading, and therefore the one I wanted to tell stories in.

Lightning Round Questions

What are you reading right now? Or what do you have on your TBR that you’re dying to read?

I am dying to read so many things! I’ve been under deadline and thus not reading. But Laini Taylor, Nic Stone, and Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner are all taunting me from my TBR pile.

Team DC or Team Marvel?

Marvel generally, but Wonder Woman always.

Team Iron Man, Team Cap, Team Thor, Team Black Widow, or another Marvel
Character?

Nebula!

Favorite Place to travel?

Romania.

Favorite TV show?

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Peaky Blinders, and Brooklyn 99. (And and andI like TV a LOT.)

Sweet or Salty?

I’m a massive sugar fiend.

Any Phobias?

Mold and raw meat.

Song you can’t get enough of right now?

Hozier’s entire album.

Summer/Fall Movie you’re most looking forward to?

Atomic Blonde looks amazing!

Sunday Poetry: Kristian Macaron

OK, so Kristian is a Facebook friend. We did meet somewhere, but my memory fails me. She is published by Swimming with Elephants, and her wandering poems are epic cataclysms of molten explosions, star twists and extravaganzas. She's quite persistent on the topic that minimizes our personal angst into mere specks, blips on the eyeballs of galaxies. Wanderer I’ve been trying to figure out the way the world was built. The way tectonics equal breath—In that same way moments ofnebulae and volcanoes passamong us into some elemental ocean—as even as moments of picking upstarfish in the surf, as sifting throughstones in mountains. Pangea, Rodinia, Laurasia, Atlantis are names of infinite movement andonce they’ve released their seismic shudders the plates mantle-warmbreathe Jade—tectonic scarring—silty snake green and ocean veined.Once a stranger told me that the Grand Canyon grows one centimetereach year—or crumbles—and that part of Guatemala is in California, and he’s probablywrong, but “I know the world is moving,” he says and tells methe snowy plateau of the Rockiesis part of the Pacific subterraneanwhich forced herself up through the crustto become a continental core. I’ve stood in Chaco canyon under the many-armed paintednova spinning in the shadow of a blinding sun.Once the bed of a millennial ocean, epicontinental from the Arctic to the Mexican Gulf—the dirt roads that pass through here connectedthe home of a millennial people.Supernova light—once an outstretched sudden flame—already past and already dimming. A planet is a wanderer, a wonderer. Now that years occur to me as space, I realize thatmost seconds I am not aware of where you areon this Earth, in this stitched river of novas, this bed of planets. I’ve been trying to figure out the way the world was built. The ground is as old as Creation.Earth, we call her, earth: stone, dirt, ash, dust. Before the mountains there were oceans. Before oceans, a surface, and underneath:a molten heart, pulsing—to set the beat of ours— in bursts. Suddenly earth— suddenly starfish— suddenly breath—suddenly stars—The first cartographs are mountains pressed with seashells—tattoos older than language. The words of the Creator are these mountains—dry ridges of deep ocean, pressed by atmosphere. We are here with no compass, but how we choose todraw our breath, soundless;plant our steps, mercurial. A star can live for a million years and collapse in secondsso heavy it suffocates into its own gravity. All brightness, and suddenly neutrinos sculpting glow. From the surging remnant sings a radiant heartbeat—a beacon so fiercely alive it pulses through lightyears— The astronomers say that we hold comet debris in our bodies andin that in four billion years our dust will meet Andromeda, churning molecular pendula, falling into some new world—or perhaps into the roiling chaos of star birth. I’ve been trying to imagine how the world was built. And when she stopped making herself to be formed by hands—bone brittle soft blood hands—what it is she seeks from us whenshe is already madeof limestoneof lava. *When We Dream of Those Blue Fires what it says about us, thatour children are raised on fairy tales, that we obsess about wonder—no,what it says about them, that theyform in such myth, and we expectthem—we expect ourselves—to be real. A myth is meant to vanish, and when it does— There is a place in the world where the volcano spills blue, but not-firesome kind of wonder like fairy light, and it builds and burns and it flickersfrom a far off mountain, some island, some where, some real andfor a while, pictures of cerulean blaze brim over—capture. This electric indigo isflame is wonder. Before, we don’t even think of the explanation and —we are in the moments after, I want you to know that I am not ignoring the way the world is burning.I am not ignoring how this waterfall is not water falling is not blue fire is not wishbecause after is always now always moving in the moments we realize how truly we were raised on brimstone.*Alpenglow His voice doesn’t bring her stories of cloudsanymore or echoes of how electricitymakes the faraway cities mimicstars in their humming flickers of wire. She takes this evenly, like farming ashes in a campfire, like one cup of coffee at a time, like one drive to work in the morningand one drive home in the evening, one closing of a book.Like one sun setting or alpenglow—the sun’s paint on the mountains at twilight. It’s then she remembers what they sayabout mountain menis that they often learn to movewithout feet: Never knowing howto tread a ground meant to go betweenthings or traveledhand-in-hand.Alpenglows are the colors on the mountain, after all,and while she sees thecordilleras basking in horizon, cloaked in their warm rainbow they are sinking intohis irises—like honey, like tea leaves, like dew.*Bio:Originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico, Kristian Macaron received her MFA from Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts in 2012. She is a writer in multiple genres and enjoys the challenges of each. Storm, her first poetry chapbook, was released in 2015 from Swimming With Elephants Publications in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Her fiction has appeared in The Winter Tangerine Review volume 3, Lightning Cake Journal, and Ginosko Literary Journal; nonfiction in The Bellows American Review, and the Albuquerque Brewer's Crew Magazine. Her poetry has been published online in Philadelphia Stories, Elbow Room New Mexico, Watermelon Isotope, and Duke City Fix. She is a founding editor of the literary journals, Manzano Mountain Review and Little Wolf. Find her work here: kristianmacaron.comFor submission guidelines see the bottom paragraph in previous posts.  Sorry. mm.See More

"China Sea" (excerpt) by Thomas Porett

New Playlist: Oceans Away. 12 videos with an ocean theme. The footage was captured traversing onboard a ship in the South China Sea. The continuous churning of water and foam generated a feel that alters the reality to suggest both ocean and astronomical nebula.

          2016 Awards Eligibility
2016 has been a quieter year story quantity wise, but I feel my writing quality has taken a big step forward.

If you feel compelled to nominate any of my stories (thank you) for local (the SJVs) or international consideration (Tiptrees, Nebulas, Hugos, hey, a girl can dream), then here are what I believe are my best works of the 2016 calendar year:

"An Atlas in Sgraffito Style", Shimmer Magazine, May 2016. A lovely-strange piece about cities colliding, merging, and eating themselves, and the women who try to hold them together through paint and riot. Still immensely proud of this story.

"Splintr" At The Edge, edited by Lee Murray and Dan Rabarts, Paper Road Press, June 2016. Another weird piece, all sharp edges and strange prose. Aliens evacuate a doomed Earth, leaving one person behind. Are the multiple narratives part of a fracturing personality under pressure, or is the strange apocalypse doing something to time on the quantum level?

"Shadow Cat's Apprentice, and the Wanderer's Almanac to Biliousness in All Its Forms" Andromeda Spaceways, Issue 64 September 2016. A fun story, the prequel to "Long's Confandabulous Circus" in ASM last year. Cats, magic, sewers, sinister shadow assassins, oh my.

Thanks for coming along on the ride this year.

          Mosaics tips

Hi, with the moon high I've started  doing some mosaics in ha and I'd have a question:

- is it possible to enlarge a grid (from an initial one), in the -x direction?. In the advanced panel I can add panels, but it seems the counter is only for positive values (+1,+2,+3). for example, I have built a 4 panels grid on Veil Nebula and want to go up to NGC7000 and enlarge the stripe both sides.

Thanks alot,

Andrea

  • Turn-based tactical combat: We keep with the Master of Orion 2 formula but with some novelties for an even deeper and satisfying experience
  • Ship design: customize your ships, send them to battle and witness the results of your creation in action with full control
  • Free space-based movement with range limits: Your ships can travel to every star as long as there’s no celestial object in the way and the destination is in supply range
  • Race customization: Design your own races with their advantages, disadvantages and special abilities for increased fun, variety and challenge
  • Leaders: Leaders have not only abilities but also traits and desires for additional personality. Leaders accumulate experience, level up and you can choose which primary skills they improve and even which secondary skills they obtain or upgrade
  • Deep colony development and terraforming: You can see the colony close, see the buildings there. You can build planetary improvements, empire projects and even wonders. The worlds are procedurally generated. So, each game will have different planets and terrain views. You can see your planets evolve, and no planet is equal.
  • Random tech trees: Not all techs are present in every game and players may have different tech trees in each game. Research artifacts that boost certain research fields and unique techs that can only be found in derelicts or ruins exploration
  • Races with different ideal planet types: Play with races that prefer different environments since they have different biochemistries, unique abilities and special characteristics
  • Rich and reliable diplomacy system: You can make and break treaties with the alien races for trade, mining rights, research treaties and alliances. Expect lots of personality, a reliable system (player understands what’s going on) and meaningful and real cooperation
  • Varied and deep exploration mechanics: A more realistic galaxy, with black holes, neutron stars, exotic stars, brown dwarfs, white dwarfs, nebulae, asteroid belts and rogue planets, all playing a role in our gameplay model. Some of which will need to be revealed as you play!
  • Define your space civilization wants and desires: Shape the way your empire explores the stars and develops by choosing which cultural path you shall take in each game. Will you be an adventurer, a tycoon or a knowledge seeker?
  • Deep economic model: Mine asteroids for minerals, volatiles or study them for research. Exploit interstellar tourism and research and strategic resources that unlock new key technologies and provide other advantages
  • Espionage: Steal technologies, conduct sabotage and frame others
